Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is the process of permanently attaching a tooth-colored resin material to your teeth using a high intensity light. It is used to repair decayed, chipped or cracked teeth, improve the appearance of discolored teeth, close spaces between teeth, protect exposed roots when gums recede, and change the shape of teeth. It is an excellent way to improve one’s smile for both cosmetic and health purposes.
What To Expect
Dental bonding is a fairly quick and painless procedure. It can generally be done in one visit and anesthesia is rarely necessary unless the tooth is decayed. Compared to veneers or dental crowns, dental bonding is a popular procedure because it does not remove as much of the original enamel. However, it is recommended for smaller as opposed to more severe repairs because it is less permanent. Bonding materials typically last about 3-10 years before needing a touch-up or replacement. The better care you take of your teeth, the longer they will last.
Dental Care
Regular brushing, flossing, and visits to the dentist are recommended as normal. Dental bonding shouldn’t affect your ability to eat or drink, but it is important to note that bonding material can chip. Habits such as chewing on pens or ice and using your teeth as an opener should be avoided.
