Dental Bridges
One or more missing teeth can severely affect the aesthetics and functionality of your mouth. Missing teeth can cause your existing teeth to shift and make it more difficult to speak or eat. To restore and enhance your smile, dental bridges are used to literally “bridge” the gap between two teeth. Dental bridges are an excellent solution for people with either natural teeth or implants and generally last approximately 5-15 years.
How Does It Work?
A dental bridge uses crowns on either side of the gap to support a false tooth in the middle, usually made of porcelain. During your first visit, the crowns on either side of the tooth are prepared and an impression of the teeth is taken so the porcelain tooth will perfectly fit your mouth and appear as existing teeth do. During the second visit, the bridge will be cemented in place and adjusted for a proper fit and comfortable bite.
Will It Change How I Speak?
Bridges will not impair your ability to eat or speak. In fact, they will often times improve it. Bridges also keep natural teeth in alignment, reduce the likelihood of bone loss, and allow you to maintain the shape of your face. It is imperative that patients with dental bridges maintain good oral health (brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and regular visits to the dentist). If patients fail to keep a regular cleaning schedule, gum disease and tooth decay could compromise the success of a dental bridge. The cleaner your mouth, the longer your dental bridge will last.
