What are Veneers?

Veneers are created from porcelain that has a tooth color. When you get veneers it will be custom made for your teeth.

They will not be able to fit anyone else and they will bond to your teeth to help their size, shape, and color.

Is there a difference between veneers and crowns?

Crowns and veneers are both used to improve the look of your teeth. However, veneers are a shell that is placed on your teeth, whereas crowns act like caps over the teeth.

Installing veneers requires less modification to the original tooth.

How Will My Reshaped Teeth Look?

When you’re getting bonded veneers, you will need to go to a dentist at least twice. The first time you go to the dentist they will shave your teeth. The second time you visit the veneers will be cemented on your teeth.

In between visits, you will get temporary veneers. These veneers will only be on for a little time and will be removed as soon as permanent veneers are ready.

Can I Get Cavities With Veneers?

You may be wondering if it will be easier for you to get cavities when you have veneers. If you take care of your teeth in the usual manner, there is no greater chance you will get cavities.

Make sure you brush your teeth regularly, floss, and use a mouthwash. Go to your dentist for regular dental checkups as well. This will keep your gums and teeth healthy.

What are the Advantages of Veneers?

You must understand the advantages of veneers before you get them installed. As mentioned before veneers require a slight modification of your original teeth, yet they are capable of improving the appearance of your smile almost immediately.

If you are having problems with discoloration, or gum tissues, veneers are a great way to update your smile. You will never have to worry about your veneers looking mismatched.

This is because they will perfectly match the color of your teeth so that they can fit in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth.

What Are the Disadvantages of Veneers?

Of course, if they’re advantages to getting veneers there are also disadvantages to using this method as well. You must know them so that you can weigh the pros and cons of your specific situation.

One of the major disadvantages is that once your teeth have been prepared you cannot go back and change your mind. The process cannot be reversed.

Also, when the veneer cracks you will need to replace the entire veneer. Additionally, if your dentist is not sure about the health of your gums they will not install veneers for you.

Finally, you will always have to be on your guard so as not to damage your veneers. Make sure that you avoid chewing certain types of food as this can crack your veneers.

When are Veneers Recommended?

Veneers are often recommended when your teeth have become misaligned, chipped, uneven, discolored, or shaped irregularly.

Porcelain veneers offer a simple and easy solution for fixing these problems and giving you a perfect smile.

Do Porcelain Veneers Stain?

It is difficult to stain porcelain veneers but it may happen if you are eating foods and beverages that are prone to staining teeth.  If you find that a certain food is staining your teeth then you should abstain from it.

The point of veneers is to have beautiful-looking teeth for the long term.

How Strong are Veneers?

Understandably, you would want to know the strength of the veneer, since you will be having them installed. Veneers are made from extremely strong material and you should be able to eat most foods.

However, it’s always a good idea to avoid hard foods or chewing ice, as this can crack your veneers.

Sensitivity to Hot and Cold Beverages

When you just have your veneers installed, there will be a lot of sensitivity to both hot and cold beverages. This is because your veneers haven’t settled.

You should try to avoid extremely hot or cold foods in the first few days after your veneers have been installed. After a few days have passed the problem will be resolved and you will be able to handle hot and cold beverages as you normally would.

Can I Damage My Veneers If I Grind My Teeth At Night?

If you’re in the habit of grinding your teeth at night you may be wondering whether or not this can damage your veneers. The answer is yes.

Grinding your teeth at night can be very damaging to your veneers. If you do this regularly it is a good idea to get a night guard custom-made for your mouth, to prevent your tooth grinding from damaging your veneers.

You can buy guards that are not custom fitted but the ones that are will work best.
